SAVO foundation works with school and communities to improve access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation and to raise awareness of the importance of hand washing and waste management. By working side by side with communities to build sustainable, community-managed water and sanitation services, SAVO foundation engages communities to incorporate good hygiene practices, including hand washing, sanitary toilet use and environmental cleanliness into their everyday lives. Improved sanitation facilities are one of the key methods for reducing stunting and improving the health of children and their families.d level. SAVO foundation is also constructing toilets in schools within
From 2013 onwards, three villages and 21 school benefited and more than 3000 households (or approximately 3 villages.) This will ensure communities will have to know more about clean drinking water. Through SODIS method which solar disinfection which is the cheapest method for treating water at householKibera slum and launching Health Clubs that teach students the importance of washing their hands and preventing diseases.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) are some of the most basic needs for human health and survival. WASH can also be crucial components in freeing people from poverty. Still, 1 out of 10 people do not have access to an improved source of drinking water and more people don’t have access to a hygienic means of basic sanitation. Our impact is the change our evidence creates in the Kibera. Our experience shows that when we work together with community leaders, we can ensure that the evidence we generate is put to use through better programs and policies for the poor.
Impact is why we do what we do? – to build a place with more evidence and less poverty, less diseases and les crimes
SAVO foundation has long understood the importance of WASH in the context of the services we provide. In fact, WASH solutions are typically included in a majority of SAVO’s development design projects and We have observed that based faith organizations and development organizations are increasingly engaging in holistic community WASH services in some villages within Kibera slum. This is a national effort to preserve and sustain human life while at the same time sharing living water through hope in our creator. However, many of these organizations lack sufficient access to an appropriate level of technical assistance when they encounter complex design issues or overwhelming emergency situations. These organizations need a ministry partnership that can provide cost-effective, on-demand technical WASH expertise within the context of the sustainable environment.
Children, their families and communities are empowered to participate in all stages of the programmes that affect them.
Engaging with communities to help them to develop their own solutions to local problems
SAVO foundation continues to focus its efforts on marginalised and vulnerable children in Kibera slum areas that is hard to access.
Water and environmental sanitation work has greater impact and is more sustainable if it is integrated into the health, education and livelihood sectors.
Ensuring that governments, service delivery agencies and donors appropriately prioritise nationally access to water and sanitation.
Our support in promoting a nutritional diet, along with effective hygiene and sanitation practices, has significantly boosted early learning among young children in Kibera slum.
Preschool is an important part of early childhood care and development. Children who attend preschool are more likely to succeed in primary school. Children benefit most from preschools that provide children access and early orientation to effective hygiene and sanitation practices. Given the high grade repetition level in primary school and late start, the benefits of preschools become even more apparent. Many children in slum do not have access to early childhood education, despite its inclusion in Kenya constitution.
Our experience shows that preschool and sanitation promotion alone is not a complete solution to bringing about quality learning that prepares children for the primary education. In other words, children need to be well fed, too, Children suffering from malnutrition are less likely to succeed in school and are more prone to dropping out.
